How To Save On International Shipping

Some tips to save money in international shipping:

A Penney saved is a dollar earned! Neighborhood Parcel is proud to suggest the following tips to help you reduce shipping charges. Being in the industry for over a decade, we learned a thing or two about shipping and the gimmicks FedEx, UPS and DHL use to dig deep into your wallet:

  1. Don't pay for Airspace in Aircraft: Use the correct size box for your shipment.
  2. Combine and consolidate shipments whenever you can.
  3. Use correct packaging to protect your contents.
  4. Look for coupons, we usually have one online that you can print.
  5. Consider Ocean Freight and LTL ground freight for large shipments.
  6. Always insure your valuable parcels, don't be Penney wise and dollar fool.
  7. Track your shipment from processing to billing, carriers may bill you for larger shipments or hit you with hidden fees. You need to be prepared to dispute the charges by showing proof of actual shipment details.
  8. Never use the do com sites like FedEx.com or UPS.com, they require you to consent to authorize future charges as deemed appropriate by the carrier and without your approval! Pay cash or use your nearest independent shipping center because they will shield you from any future charges or hidden fees.
  9. Double check the consignee's address. A carrier can charge upwards of $15 to correct your address and deliver the package. If you forget to include the apartment number or simply ignore that the recipient is on a specific floor, expect to be charged!
  10. If you are not familiar with international shipping and trade requirements, leave it to the pros! This is not a DYI project. An error in the international paperwork may lead to delays, fines, and extra charges!
